We all are looking forward to having some free days. They offer us a chance to get away from the daily work routine and to discover new things. This time we were lucky and could take 3 weeks annual vacation.
Of course, we thought about it and collected ideas about where we would like to go. The choice fell on the north of Europe. In 3 weeks it should be possible to drive around the Baltic Sea. But not only the bypassing itself should be the goal of the journey. Rather it should be explored, what is especially interesting about this part of the earth. Language as well as culture are a precious asset in every country, which means that not only values and norms but also stories, sagas and songs are passed on over generations.
In Lapland there are the Samis, the only indigenous people of Europe. We wanted to learn more about them and so we planned our trip.
Day 1
We started from Saxony-Anhalt. We had a long journey ahead of us, because we wanted to reach the northern tip of Denmark on our first day to get the ferry from Fredrikshavn to Goteborg at night. We drive almost 800 km on the road. Arriving at the harbour the clock strikes 11 in the night.
