Day 7
The next day we make a stopover in Calvi. Even though we avoid highly frequented areas as much as possible, we still roam around Calvi and have a look around the town. In any case, there are one shop next to another and restaurants and lots of people. We don’t stay for long and continue on our way. This way, the battery can still be charged a bit during the ride. The high temperatures put a lot of strain on the battery and it has to keep the fridge going. After all, the fridge works against temperatures of over 30° C.
When travelling, it is inevitable that you have to replenish your food supplies from time to time. While shopping, we decide to cook chicken in a forged iron pan for dinner tonight. To cook, we look for a location with a view and arrive at a look-out point. We enjoy a good and healthy meal of chicken and fresh vegetables in the evening and drink Pietra beer with it. It is probably the most famous beer on the island and is made from chestnut flour. It sounds a bit strange at first, but it is very tasty.
A small warning in this regard. This beer not only tastes good to humans, but also to wasps. And they like it so much that they crawl into the little bottles. It happens to Christian that he takes a sip with wasp in it. He is not able to notice it that quickly and it ended with a sting in the tongue and a quick spitting out with a fatal outcome for the wasp. At that moment I was more panicked than Christian. How much does the sting swell now? Do we have to do something, see a doctor? He was lucky and seemed to have built up a very good defence. The swelling on his tongue is not big and calms down in no time. So everything is fine and we have a relaxed evening. We set aside a piece of chicken for the other wasps to help themselves to.
